The Fox and the Crow

The Fox and the Crow is a light-weight, set-collecting, card game for hungry foxes and devious crows. Play as both creatures to nab the best treats from the town baker’s pastry cart… or even from other players stolen stash.

3-6 PLAYERS

20 MINUTES

In The Fox and the Crow, players play as foxes and crows nabbing pastries from the local baker…and from each other. Over the course of several rounds, players decide when to grab pastries of many types as they circulate around the table, and points will be scored for each pastry acquired by the end of the game. But the player with the most of a type of pastry has overeaten and scores nothing, so be sure you don’t nab too much of any one type!

Each player is given a fox/crow token to represent which character they are currently acting as. On your turn, flip your token to the fox side, then take any amount of treats from the cart in the middle of the table. You must now give 1 of your treats to another player who is currently a crow. Then everyone who is still a crow has the option to flip their token to a fox and take a treat from the board, if any remain, or from another player who is a fox. The cart is refilled, the fox player flips their token to crow, and the next player takes their turn. The game ends when the draw pile cannot fully refill the cart, or the third time that a player takes every treat from the cart. At that point, players score points for their treats, but the player with the most of each type of treat scores 0 points for that type of treat.

Saving your crow ability protects you from theft, but keeps you open to be given treats you don’t want, so timing is very important. Treats also come on cards with multiple treats of different types that cannot be split up, so taking just the treat you want is less simple than it sounds.

This game is an homage to the song The Fox and the Crow by mewithoutYou, based on the fable with the same name.
